Celebrate365’s Spring 2010 issue!

Cover design:  Sheryl Parsons – Mother’s Dream Artworks

Celebrate365 is beginning its second decade of reporting holiday, ornament and folk art news. I can hardly believe that it has been 10 years since this little “retirement” pastime began. How technology has changed in those 10 years! Back in October 1999, I used my brand new, top of the line 1.5 megapixel Sony digital camera to take photos for the the Halloween test issue. I must say that my camera and editing skills have improved significantly over that first black and white issue.

I’ll be announcing 10th Anniversary celebrations and surprises in the coming days and weeks. Stop back often for updates!

Reporting from Atlanta … America’s Mart, Day Two

AmericasMart, Atlanta – Day 2

We completed work in the Radko showroom today. That’s one down! I’m still working on those photos so you’ll have to be patient. As I mentioned previously, this year’s line is much more focused and shows a restrained hand with fewer colors, less glitter and  less “doo-dads”. I was impressed! Good job, Heather and Radko staffers!

Hey, Atlanta has SNOW! I have never experienced it here. Being from Ohio, I’d call this a very light dusting … but it seems there is the dreaded black ice beneath. Plus, these Georgians just aren’t equipped for the white winter stuff. So, schools are closing already for tomorrow.

Here are some photos of new introductions from several showrooms. Let’s play the “Whose is it” game again. Please use the comment form beneath this post to make your guesses. But, if you can’t find the “comment” link, feel free to send me your guesses using the CONTACT tab at the top of this page.

Celebrate365 … the Christmas Issue

Where has the time gone? It’s seems like just last month I was enjoy sunshine poolside. Now it’s time for snowflakes and lots of glitter!

The Christmas issue of Celebrate365 is at the printer and I know you won’t want to miss this issue. What’s inside?

  • A California Christmas with Gerald Sowell
  • Christopher Radko ornaments celebrates 25th anniversary in 2010 … what’s in store?
  • Thomas Glenn Collection featured in “O” Magazine
  • Featuring Santa and snow person ornaments and folk art

On a personal note, I’m going to begin my celebrations just a bit early. My husband and I will be joining artist Elaine Roesle on her annual tour of Germany. We’ll be leaving on Dec 3 and return December 13. We’ll have 10 days of exploring Christmas markets, museums and German holiday culture. I’ll be blogging for throughout the trip so check in here to follow our progress.

More from Atlanta … Christopher Radko Company

The Christopher Radko showroom has been refreshed with newly painted walls in traditional colors and lots of new displays, including this elaborate tree that greets retailers at Atlanta’s America’s Mart.

Christopher Radko's 2009 Italian Collection
Christopher Radko's 2009 Italian Collection

It’s no secret that I love Italian free blown ornaments.  I was delighted to see a that Radko is continuing its partnership with Soffieria De Carlini, Italy’s premier workshop.  The top row begins with a new Pinocchio figure … very nice.  And, there is a new entry in the musical group category … the Bee Gees. (Find the bee with a purple head & a guitar in the top row.)  These are just too cute!  Unfortunately, prices for Italian ornaments continue to rise.  We need a lesson in “Ornanomics” to fully understand currency exchange, shipping and Italian labor costs.  That’s a topic for another time!

A trio of Schaller snowmen in the Radko showroom

I usually don’t cover the Schaller line but when the designer for this non-glass division offered to give me a tour … well who can pass up the opportunity?  These three candy containers represent the design trend that I noted throughout the showroom … simpler designs, fewer and more traditional colors.  I must say that I was pleased with the “make over”.

Ceramic Cookie Jar, Sleigh and Reindeer
Ceramic Cookie Jar, Sleigh and Reindeer

There are several new cookies jars in the 2009 line.  This one is just outstanding.  It is an elaborate sleigh pulled by reindeer.  The presents lift up to reveal the cookie container.
