The shelves are stocked and organized … the new ornaments have arrived. We are ready to roll ‘n roll for the holidays!

Climate controlled storage … but poor lighting for me! I often use a flashlight when finding ornaments to fill your order! But, the owners are so nice … they let me use their WiFi so I can adjust inventory errors as I go.  Let the shipping begin!

Pop-Xmas-Frame-smJust arrived and available online … 2015 Styles from Thomas Glenn Holidays

Year business began production:  2000
Country of production: Poland
Designer:  Thomas Glenn (deceased), Brent Lawyer

When contemporary artist Thomas Glenn created his first ornament collection in 2000, he infused it with ultramodern colors and graphics.  Chartreuse, magenta, turquoise, orange … Are those the colors of Christmas?  They are for Thomas Glenn Holidays!

SpaceBallCube-frame_smThe Thomas Glenn collection has always been known for using a unique color palette, and I want to continue this and broaden the spectrum even further,” explains Brent Lawyer, current company owner.  This year’s collection includes traditionally colored “Pop Art”* in red, green and white.  But, that’s where “tradition” ends.  You won’t find a Christmas tree or Santa on this ball ornament.  It’s fully glittered with circles and squiggles.  A sunburst-style graphic creates the central motif.  Lawyer also created a blue and green version of the design.

koi-pond-shabby-frame-smLawyer also continues with Glenn’s more “traditional” style designs as well.  Thomas Glenn collections always maintained a strong Asian theme.  This year’s “Koi Pond” depicts these brilliantly colored ornamental Japanese fish as they placidly swim through still blue waters.

Collectors can delight in bringing Thomas Glenn works of art into their own home and onto their holiday trees and year-round displays with these exceptional European crafted ornaments.  Artistic vision continues in 2015.

*Pop art is a movement that emerged in the mid-1950s in Britain and a few years later in the United States.  Artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein attempted to connect fine art traditions with pop culture elements from television, advertisements, films, and cartoons.

Leipzig, Germany Flea Market

You know you are a serious shopper when you are willing to leave your hotel at 5:30 AM and drive for two hours to the Leipzig flea market.

The Leipzig, Germany flea market is has earned a reputation as the Europe’s largest with up to 5,000 vendors when filled to capacity. Our little tour group braved chilly drizzle as we trouped up and down rows of outdoor vendors seeking unique Christmas treasures that caught our fancy.  We had barely begun when I spotted the hunch-backed Santa in a brown mohair coat.  He is German and from the 1890 – 1910 era.  He will need a bit of repair but he’s going to be an outstanding addition to my collection.  He is a real treasure!

Beside all of the outdoor dealers, Leipzig boasts two huge vendor halls inside.  We ventured inside when the drizzle turned into a steadier rain for awhile.  License plates identified exhibitors from the Czech Republic, Poland and other European nations.  As with any flea market, one person’s treasure is another one’s junk!  Of course, we saw much that was of little interest, but it was good to be able to walk right by.  We walked and walked from 7:30 AM until noon with one bathroom break and a brief snack time.  I certainly logged plenty of steps!

For an avid antiquer, this was a dream scenario.  We passed up many things and narrowed our purchases to things that were treasures or super deals.  And, bargaining was like a comedy act!  As you can well, we will be coming home with Christmas treasures and colorful memories.

The Eric Cortina Collection

Eric Cortina Celebrates Ten Years

Eric Cortina Collection

It’s exciting to see one’s dreams become reality.  That’s the case for Eric Cortina, visual director for Roger’s Gardens in Corona del Mar, California.

Surrounded by holiday ornaments throughout the year as well as traveling to Europe in conjunction with his career, Eric developed an appreciation for glass ornaments.

Celebrate365 first met Eric in 2003 in an interview in the Early Fall issue.  He had just 14 designs. Now, Eric is celebrating his tenth anniversary as an ornament designer.

The innovations just keep coming.  Eric continues to think outside the box. He is not afraid to design over-sized ornaments that can stand along as accents in the home. He does not hesitate to create ornaments that are formed from multiple molds and then assembled into the finished design.

Compared to other ornament companies, Eric still maintains a very small, highly curated collection and he exhibits his ornament designs and home décor at AmericasMart, Building 1, Floor 20.

For most collectors, it’s not that easy to find an Eric Cortina ornament locally.  Neiman Marcus and Horchow carry the line nationally.  Premiere level accounts are located in California and New York and internationally in England.

To honor Eric’s Tenth Anniversary, Celebrate365.com is offering a diverse selection of ornaments from his ten years of design.
