I’m amid a big box & move-it project for the installation of wood floors on the first floor. And, I also need to begin preparing for the weekend show. I think that I will have two trees plus a full table … mixing antique, vintage and contemporary items. I’m planning to concentrate on “onsies” … things that just aren’t worth the time to list them online. I have a number of signed folk art pins and things, single ornaments from my collection etc. For example, I have a huge rolling bin of “extras”that I don’t think I’ve opened since about 2005! And, I have retail merchandise that has never made it online due to my extended illness. Look for lots of bargain pricing … I seriously need to downsize both personally and business-wise. Need a full size 7 ft pre-lit tree? Got one of those stored on the third floor of Apple Tree. I’ll make you a real deal if you can haul it away on Saturday! LOL

I will be bringing things that cover all 4 seasons. In other words, 365 days of the year!  Hope to meet you in Piqua!

America’sMart Premieres 2013 Ornament Collections

Thomas Glenn Holidays 2013 Debut

Thomas Glenn Display, Atlanta 2013

Shortly after Christmas 2012, ornament designers and companies from around the world gathered in Atlanta as AmericasMart debuted new holiday collections.

Christopher Radko, Joy to the World Collectibles, Christina’s World, JingleNog, Eric Cortina, Soffieria De Carlini, Kurt Adler Presents David Strand, Bethany Lowe Designs, Thomas Glenn, Mattarusky, Debbie Thibault, Inge-glas of Germany, Vaillaincourt Folk Art … familiar names to ornament collectors.

I’ve been in Atlanta for nearly a week and will be flying home to Ohio this afternoon. Of course, I found lots of beautiful and innovative designs for the coming year. Most won’t ship to designers until late summer.  Look for blog updates over the following week as I share what’s on the horizon for glass Christmas and holiday ornaments.

Below are four new designs or colorations from Thomas Glenn Holidays. Many will recognize the Thomas Glenn name from reading Celebrate365 magazine. Glenn is a contemporary artist who has extended his sense of style to holiday ornaments. In fact, one of his designs was featured in O Magazine.

The Nativity scene is said to have originated with St. Francis of Assisi when he constructed a manger scene in a cave in the town of Greccio in 1223. Tradition holds that he led Christmas Eve mass there and organized a nativity pageant.

The crib is the most important focus of celebrations during the Christmas season in Italy. Each church displays a nativity as do many town , stores, public areas and private homes. The Christmas cribs may be quite elaborate or very simple. Families usually set up a Chrismtmas crib in their home on December 8, the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception. A family might add a new piece or two to its display each year.

While Mary, Joseph, shephards, animals, and magi may become part of the scene on December 8, Baby Jesus usually is not placed in the manger until December 26.

Just Arrived from Italy!

Soffieria De Carlini is Italy’s premiere free blown holiday ornament workshop. Soffieria means factory in Italian and De Carlini is the founder Enrico’s surname.

Founded in 1947 and located near Milan, Italy, grandson Luca Terruzzi now heads the family business. His mother, Rosa De Carlini Terruzzi still heads the decorating department. She’s the one who decides what little bits and pieces of fabrics, feathers and ribbons will embellish an ornament.

The De Carlinis are famous for their free blown designs. That means that each ornament is created without using a mold. Only the most talented glass blowers are chosen for this task. It’s slow-going. One slip and the ornament is ruined. In fact, daily production is quite limited.

Over the years, the De Carlinis have not strayed far from their founder’s vision. Ornaments tend to be simple and often whimsical. Watch out! They might just make you chuckle!
