The Eric Cortina Collection
Eric Cortina Celebrates Ten Years
It’s exciting to see one’s dreams become reality. That’s the case for Eric Cortina, visual director for Roger’s Gardens in Corona del Mar, California.
Surrounded by holiday ornaments throughout the year as well as traveling to Europe in conjunction with his career, Eric developed an appreciation for glass ornaments.
Celebrate365 first met Eric in 2003 in an interview in the Early Fall issue. He had just 14 designs. Now, Eric is celebrating his tenth anniversary as an ornament designer. The innovations just keep coming. Eric continues to think outside the box. He is not afraid to design over-sized ornaments that can stand along as accents in the home. He does not hesitate to create ornaments that are formed from multiple molds and then assembled into the finished design.
Compared to other ornament companies, Eric still maintains a very small, highly curated collection and he exhibits his ornament designs and home décor at AmericasMart, Building 1, Floor 20. For most collectors, it’s not that easy to find an Eric Cortina ornament locally. Neiman Marcus and Horchow carry the line nationally. Premiere level accounts are located in California and New York and internationally in England. To honor Eric’s Tenth Anniversary, Celebrate365.com is offering a diverse selection of ornaments from his ten years of design. |

I’m Connie and I own and operate Celebrate365.com. I’m a one-woman online shop. Disability retirement in January 2000 (severe fibromyalgia) gradually led me to open the Celebrate365.com online holiday shop. It”s been a fulfilling way to engage my brain and my creativity while acknowledging my inability to continue a high energy career. I published Celebrate365 … a journal for the ornament enthusiast through 2011. Then another health flare forced me into a less demanding schedule. Now, I share my passion for holidays, decorating and ornaments throughout the year but on my own rather erratic timetable. I can’t possibly compete with big box stores or huge online mega-sites. But, I can guarantee personal attention to your collecting needs. I offer a curated selection of artisan-crafted designs. I enjoy reporting background stories about designers and their collections. I seek out unique designs and auctions on eBay, Etsy and the world-wide-web. I share my finds on the Glass Links email list, the Celebrate365.com blog, Facebook and Pinterest. I confess. I am a holiday-enabler! From antique to contemporary, I love the holidays and the sentiments they evoke. |

When David Strand hosted me last January at the Kurt Adler showroom in Atlanta, I was enchanted with his new line. The designs are meticulous in the detail and imaginative in design. What makes these ornaments more expensive than others? Every stroke of the paintbrush and each application of glitter increase not only the artistry of a piece but its price! Skilled artisans deservedly command commensurate wages be it in Poland or the USA. I was so impressed with these sparkling decorations that I wanted to offer a few select styles on the Celebrate365.com web site. When you visit the David Strand Collection, you find 15 styles available. Each is truly stunning in its own way! Imagine my dismay not long ago while browsing an Internet mega-site that I love. I found the entire David Strand for Kurt Adler collection there … most as dramatically reduced prices. In fact, several styles were priced well below my wholesale price! |

To be fair, there are many good things about the Kurt Adler Company. They offer the small retailer a very low opening order along with a modest reorder amount. The company also offers “scaled” pricing. The greater per-style quantity you purchase, the greater the discount. That’s how this online mega-store is able to offer such low pricing. And, that is absolutely their choice. It’s one of the reasons that even I love them. I shop there regularly, in fact. I can’t possibly compete in pricing with big box stores or huge online mega-sites. However, I can guarantee personal attention to your collecting needs. But on this Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, I’m doing my best to compete with the Goliaths of the Internet. I’ve drastically reduced my prices on the entire David Strand for Kurt Adler Collection. As a passionate ornament collector myself, that’s what I feel I must do. It should be fun and entertaining to shop for holiday glass ornaments. While I hope that shoppers will continue to support small business, I hate to see anyone penalized dollar-wise for doing so. David versus Goliath? As the David in this one-employee business, I don’t have to consult with an office of advisors before making a management decision. The reduced pricing I’m now offering on the David Strand Collection is here to stay until all stock is sold! Happy Holidays from the entire staff! Connie |
