Joan, my mentor painter at Vaillancourt Folk Art, has put the finishing touches on the chalkware Santa that I created at Collector’s Weekend earlier this month. And, it’s on its way to my door. I can’t wait to see the finished figure.
I’ll be featuring the Vaillancourt Studio in the Christmas issue. They are one of the few artisan workshops still making things the “old-fashioned” way in the USA!

Please submit a high resolution image photographed against a light colored background. High resolution images are usually the “Fine” setting on your digital cameral. Be careful when you email your images to me. Some email or web programs will automatically downsize images as they send them. Check your settings and don’t let the program do this!

I will email to confirm that I have received your submission.
There are five glass ornaments in this special European-made collection. And, may I say … they are just way too cute! And, I’m not even a Coke drinker … but I know just who I’d like to buy them for.
You’ll also find two Coke designs in the Home for the Holidays collection. One is a darling snack plate for Santa. As you may remember … Coca Cola is the company who revolutionized our American concept of Santa when they designed a fat, jolly version in early advertising.
I predict these will appear on many a collector tree for Christmas 2011!
My web master, Leslie Kirk, joined us today driving in from the Birmingham, Alabama area. Leslie and my sister Benita attended the keynote presentation at AmericasMart.Erik Qualman discussed Socialnomics and how it can help retailers, artists and designers. They were impressed and I hope that they learned a few new tricks.
Meanwhile, I kept busy chatting with Bruce Elsass (a fellow Ohioan whose cousin once sat in my Spanish classroom in Wapakoneta). Bruce has a new line with new representation. The preliminary samples look fabulous! I have photos and will be talking more about this new line in the coming weeks. Expect to see his new work represented in the spring issue of Celebrate365.
Melissa Byrne, JingleNog owner, had a big surprise awaiting me when I visited her booth today. She has named her new peppermint striped mouse Melvin, in honor of my husband’s gourmet tastes. The real Melvin makes his restaurant reservations before he books a hotel room! Ornament Melvin loves to nibble upon gourmet cheeses.
I’ll report on the official name along with the ornament’s life history later.
Yes, that’s me with the glass version of Melvin … the one that can’t talk back!
You love his folk art … now you can collect his glass ornament!
Scott Smith (Rucus Studio) has collaborated with Artistry of Poland to create a glass ornament based upon his full figure German Santa candy containers.
The 5″ moulded glass ornament is finished in red satin paint. The Polish carver has certainly captured the essence of Santa’s stern face! Santa’s face is painted with a porcelain-bisque like finish that brings the character to life. He bears an arm load of holiday toys and a tradition German-style lantern to guide his way from house to house.
Scott’s artwork shows Santa wearing a flannel robe with fluffy wool trim. Note the special “glitter” on the coat & hat that recreate the look of Scott’s concept.
This ornament just arrived from Poland last week.
If you love folk art and ornaments, you’ll want the Rucus Studio “Traditional Santa” for your Christmas tree.
Enjoy free shipping when ordering this ornament on Sept 22 and 23.
